Chiang Rai is one of the popular provinces in Northern of Thailand. It is about 829 kilometres from Bangkok. How to Get There

Car - Driving from Bangkok to Chiang Rai takes around 11 hours, which you may pass several provinces such as Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Nakhon Sawan, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit and Phrae, depending on the Highway you choose. If you drive from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai, it takes around 3 hours.

Bus - Air-conditioned and regular coaches are provided daily at Northern Bus Terminal in Bangkok. It takes around 13 hours journey. Green Bus offers buses to the upper part of the Northern Region, you may take Green Bus between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. It takes around 3 hours.

Train - The State Railway of Thailand operates daily services from Hua Lamphong Railway station, Bangkok to Chiang Mai. After that, catch a local bus further from Arcade Bus terminal, Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai.

Air - The fastest way from Bangkok to Chiang Rai is by airplane. It takes approximately one hour. There are daily flights operated by Thai Airways, Air Asia, Bangkok Airway, Thai Smile, Nok Air etc.


Getting Around in Chiang Rai

Tuk-Tuk - The most common means of transportation in Chiang Rai. It is popular for short and quick journeys. Fares must be bargained in advance.

Taxi - It is not easy to find taxi in Chiang Rai. The metered fare is charged according to the distance and duration with the starting rate 37 Baht.

Car/Motorcycle - It is easier to reach the destination you plan to go.
