Lamphun is the oldest province of the North of Thailand, originally called “Nakhon Hariphunchai” or Haripunjaya. Lamphun is renowned for its productive longan orchards, its quality hand-woven silk and cotton, and its enchanting old-world charm. Lamphun has a long history and authentic Lanna culture that are the greatest attraction for travelers.

How to Get There

Car - Driving from Bangkok to Lamphun takes around 8 to 9 hours, which you may pass several provinces such as Ayutthaya, Ang Thong, Sing Buri, Nakhon Sawan etc, depending on the Highway you choose. The whole journey is around 660 Kilometers.

Bus - Take the daily bus from the Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit 2) on Kamphaeng Phet 2 Road to Lamphun. The journey takes 9 hours.

Train - Train service is available from the Bangkok Railway Station (Hua Lamphong) to Lamphun everyday. The journey takes 13 hours according to the class of train.

Air - The fastest way from Bangkok to Lamphun is by airplane to Chiang Mai, then connected to a bus from Chiang Mai to Lamphun. It takes approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes for the flight and 45 minutes for bus transit. There are daily flights operated by Thai Airways, Thai Smile, Nok Air, Air Asia etc. The bus from Chiang Mai to Lamphun departs everyday from 5.00 am to 8.30 pm every 30 minutes.


Getting Around in Lamphun

Song Theaw/Tuk-Tuk - The local means of transportation in Lamphun. It is popular for short and quick journeys. They are always around town. Fares charged depends on the bargaining.

Car/Motorcycle - The most suitable way to travel around in Lamphun should be renting car or motorcycle. It is easier to reach the destination you plan to go.

 

Special Events

Song Nam Phrathat Hariphunchai - This is Lamphun’s the best-known annual event. It is Held in May to celebrate the province’s principal religious site.

Longan Fair - The fair is held annually in August, showcasing the province’s most famous fruit with a beautifully decorated longan parade and contests.
